Connecting Community Research with Long-Range Food System Planning

The Context 

Durham County is examining its food system to understand how food is produced, distributed, accessed, and supported by public policies and local institutions. The assessment considers the connections among food access, housing, transportation, land use, and economic development.

KEC’s Contribution 

KEC leads community engagement activities within the consultant team, including focus groups, stakeholder interviews, outreach, and facilitated discussions with residents, producers, businesses, public agencies, and community organizations. Findings from these activities will inform the county’s 10-year strategic planning process.
